Chapter Twelve

The drive back to the trailer was quiet.

Neither Steve nor Lissa reached for the radio, and conversation seemed unnecessary. They’d silently dressed, and Jennifer had let them go with a smile and a kiss to their cheeks. She understood.

Lissa didn’t know if she did.

Something had changed. The dynamics, her interaction with Steve, everything that had happened tonight had shifted the current that passed between them. And Lissa wasn’t sure she wanted to explore that shift.

She moved on her seat, pulling the seat belt away from her neck for a moment before it strangled her.

“Steve—”

“Lissa—”

She looked at him as they both laughed.

“You—”

“Go ahead—”

They did it again, both speaking at the very same moment.

“I…” Lissa stopped once more as the lights lit up the trailer, and Steve pulled in to his parking space. “Never mind. It’ll wait ‘til we get inside.”

Steve nodded. “Yeah.”

The lights were turned on, coats hung up, all in silence. But it wasn’t really an awkward sort of silence, thought Lissa, just a tired one.

Steve was the first to break it. “God, I’m exhausted.” He ran a hand over his face and through his hair.

“And I could use a quick shower.” Lissa unbuttoned her shirt. “Would you mind?”

“No, go ahead. Make it real quick. I need to refill the reservoir. I’m gonna crash here, I think.” He tumbled onto the bed.

“Okay.” Lissa was ready to crash herself, but knew she’d feel better after a relaxing shower.

Images of the party flickered through her mind. She’d found what she was looking for—someplace where she could express her sexuality in any way at all, free of the limitations she’d grown up with. Free of the restrictions usually imposed by society.

Free—and yet, not free.

In spite of the surroundings, in spite of the people, Lissa had known deep inside that she didn’t want any of it. She didn’t want to have sex with women, groups, other men or toys.

She wanted Steve. Only Steve. And that thought scared the living crap out of her. Especially when she realized that finally having sex with Steve had been what she wanted all along. The only thing. She wanted his body. His cock inside her, his tongue on her, his mouth, his hands, all of him.

He made her laugh, made her mad, drove her up the wall with lust and let her do whatever she wanted with him and to him, giving her back all that and more.

This was frightening shit.

She dried off and stumbled from the little bathroom to the bed. Steve was half-stripped, sprawled over the covers and snoring quietly.

She slipped in beside him only to be cuddled up by a strong arm. “We’ll talk tomorrow, okay?” His voice was gruff and sleepy.

“Yeah. Okay.”

Lissa snuggled against him, her head finding just the right spot within his embrace. There was an odd sense of familiarity, comfort…of being in the exact place she was supposed to be.

She fell asleep trying to figure out why she felt that way and if she should be panicking about it.

It felt like only moments later when a chirp from her bag awoke her.
